Why this generation is appraising higher every year
The 997.2 Carrera 4S (2009–2012) sits at an interesting point in Porsche’s history: direct injection, the last of the hydraulic-steering 911s, and — critically — the last generation before electric power steering changed how the car felt from the driver’s seat. That combination has made clean, well-documented 997.2s increasingly sought after.
For appraisal purposes, the 4S carries its own wrinkle: all-wheel drive and a wider body mean inspection and comparable-sales analysis differ from a standard Carrera. We treat AWD 911s as their own market segment rather than pricing them off rear-drive comps.
What we look for in the field
Service history is the single biggest value driver on any 997 — IMS bearing and RMS documentation, clutch or PDK service intervals, and whether major work was done at a Porsche specialist versus an independent shop all factor into a defensible opinion of value.
PDK cars and manual cars are appraised as separate pools; in this generation, manual take-rate was low enough that well-kept manual 4S cars often command a distinct premium.
- Full service history & receipts
