Barnstable County Probate and Family Court
All fifteen Cape towns file through Barnstable County Probate and Family Court, sitting in Barnstable. Under G.L. c. 190B, § 3-706, the personal representative prepares an inventory within three months of appointment listing each asset at its fair market value as of the date of death. Our reports are formatted to drop straight into that inventory, with the effective date stated separately from the inspection date.
Martha's Vineyard matters go through Dukes County, and Nantucket through Nantucket County. If you are unsure whether an appraisal is warranted at all for a particular vehicle, call — we will tell you when it is not.
